Latin America is a vital market for U.S. grain, coproduct and ethanol exports. The geographic proximity, ten free-trade agreements, and growing demand for high quality grain and ethanol support market access to the region.
In the 2024/2025 corn marketing year, U.S. exports to the region were 14.6 MMT, a record year. The region represents 20% of total U.S. corn exports with Colombia, Guatemala and Honduras consistently among the top 10 global export destinations.
U.S. coproduct exports to the region also reached a record high and Latin America accounted for 12% of total U.S. coproduct exports. Colombia has emerged as a leading buyer of DDGS as the number four global export destination in marketing year 2024/2025 while Chile maintained the number one export destination for corn protein meal, highlighting the region’s diverse and growing demand for feed ingredients.
As a region with significant ethanol production and consumption, Latin America continues to be an important market for U.S. ethanol exports. In marketing year 2024/2025, 12% of U.S. ethanol exports went to Latin America with Colombia, Peru and Brazil ranked among the top 10 global export destinations and Jamaica as another consistent importer. Demand in the region is expected to grow as countries in Central America start blending programs and South American markets increase blend mandates.
The U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council focuses on strengthening existing markets while identifying and developing new opportunities. Through technical engagement, policy collaboration and market development programs, the Council works to expand the use of U.S. corn, co-products, and ethanol throughout Latin America.
