Council Promotion Efforts Lead To Five Years Of Export Growth In Korean Market

Using Agricultural Trade Promotion Program (ATP) funding, the Council has successfully contributed to the expansion of the U.S. DDGS export market to Korea.  The Council was able to overcome obstacles to export U.S. DDGS due to tariffs and trade policy measures with China, as well as expand the export market for U.S. DDGS to South Korea despite the decrease in DDGS production and disruption in the logistics market due to COVID 19.

The Council has used ATP funds for the past five years to pursue two strategies to achieve its goal of sustained export growth:

    1. To continuously provide up-to-date technical information to compound feed manufacturers to improve their DDGS inclusion ratios;
    2. To provide an annual program to expand DDGS trade and contracts by providing business opportunities between U.S. suppliers and Korean buyers.

This strategy has led to increased U.S. DDGS exports for five consecutive years from 2020 to 2024 and achieved the highest export performance of 1.534 MMT in MY 2023/24 since the first export of DDGS to the Korean market in 2004.

The Council has hosted six U.S. DDGS Trade Conferences in the past five years, sponsored approximately 40 Korean DDGS buyers to attend the Export Exchange held in 2022 and 2024 in the U.S. and supported DDGS buyers to attend the Southeast Asia USDA Cooperators Conference in Danang in 2023.

The Council invested $115,577 of ATP funding from 2020 to 2024, contributing to an average annual import increase of 85,379 tons and an average value increase of $93,976,200 within five years. This has generated a total export increase of $469,881,000 over the five years compared to 2019, creating a ROI of $4,065 for every $1 of ATP funds invested.
