The DeLong Co. Agricultural Maritime Export Facility — Port of Milwaukee
Available to USGBC checkoff and general farm organization member types only.
Situated on Jones Island at Port Milwaukee, The DeLong Co.’s Agricultural Maritime Export Facility is among the first of its kind on the Great Lakes and into the St. Lawrence Seaway system, built to move multiple agricultural commodities by truck, rail, and vessel.
The tour walks attendees through the full operation, from inbound truck and rail receiving, where commodities are unloaded and conveyed across S. Carferry Drive into nearly 48,000 short tons of storage capacity, including 2 newly installed Laidig silos that give the facility the flexibility to handle and segregate multiple commodity types at once. Together, these systems make it possible to efficiently stage and load products bound for international markets, right here in Milwaukee.

Enjoy a welcoming breakfast alongside an engaging presentation on the iconic Mackie Building and Grain Exchange. Built in 1879 as the epicenter of commerce, the Mackie Building once housed the Chamber of Commerce and Grain Exchange—where international grain prices were set, placing Milwaukee at the center of global trade. Through vivid storytelling, you’ll explore the city’s early history, architecture, and the preservation efforts that saved this landmark. Following the presentation, guest will head out for a special visit to the breathtaking Grain Exchange inside the Mackie Building. During this exclusive 20-minute experience, take in soaring ceilings and intricate craftsmanship while standing in the very room where global grain prices were once determined. Before departing, browse the Historic Milwaukee, Inc. Gift Shop, then board a comfortable shuttle for a visit to the Milwaukee County Historical Society & Museum. Housed in the former Second Ward Savings Bank, this striking building also appeared in the 2009 film Public Enemies, starring Johnny Depp, as the setting for a dramatic bank robbery scene. This final stop offers a deeper look into the people, industries, and moments—both real and cinematic—that have shaped Milwaukee’s identity, bringing the morning full circle.
