Last week, U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council (USGBC) Senior Manager of Global Ethanol Export Development Ankit Chandra spoke at the Sustainable Aviation Futures Latin America in São Paulo, Brazil, highlighting ethanol’s expanding role in global sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) value chains.
“Aviation fuel is one of the most exciting growth opportunities for the ethanol industry, with the ability to drastically reduce the carbon footprint of air travel while generating significant new demand for producers,” Chandra said.
Chandra’s presentation, “Ethanol: An Expanding Frontier,” outlined the structural advantages of the U.S. as a long-standing biofuel leader and requirements in scaling alcohol-to-jet (AtJ) pathways.
The session covered record U.S. corn yields, significant installed ethanol capacity, continued lifecycle carbon intensity reductions and the strategic implications of updated CORSIA default values for bioethanol-based SAF.
In addition to his presentation, Chandra engaged in discussions with representatives from ICAO, Axens, Airbus and regional airlines on policy alignment, technology deployment and the importance of clear, durable market signals ahead of CORSIA Phase 2 implementation.
“Establishing relationships, especially with companies that can be industry leaders in transitioning to SAF, is a vital strategy for the Council to create inroads to wider global adoption of ethanol as a resource for air transportation,” Chandra said.
“There is clear interest in ethanol and AtJ technologies and their applications for airlines, and the Council is proud to position itself as a resource for producers and end-users alike to advance U.S. exports and meet new demand.”
